M2M will send a shipment to Thailand in Dec 2022

Working bee in December 2022 to prepare for a shipment to Thailand!

Container Ship

We need to fill a shipping container in early December and we need your help.  Please keep reading to find out more.

It's nearly time to send another shipment

There will be a working bee event at the Keperra Baptist Church on Saturday, the 10th of December 2022 and we need your help. So if you're available, please roll up your sleeves and join us.

The first thought which usually springs to mind when you hear the words "shipping container" is heavy lifting. That's not what this working bee is all about. There are so many other lighter duties for those who cannot lift heavy items. Here is just a short list of duties:

  • Cleaning and dusting
  • Removing cob webs
  • Inspecting each item for defects
  • Weighing and measuring boxes
  • Updating the manifest and the packing list
  • Padding for fragile items
  • Taping boxes
  • Grouping items according to category and
  • Manually loading the items into the shipping container

There's plenty of work to do and we need your help. Men and women are encouraged to join in. Please feel free to invite your friends to the working bee.

Why are we doing this?

In 2019, M2M hosted a dinner with two guest speakers.  Those guest speakers were not Burmese.  If truth be told, they were from the Karen community in Brisbane.  Their stories about the Karen refugees, who mostly live in camps in Thailand, were absolutely heart-breaking.  Since then, the Mission2Myanmar (M2M) has been looking for an opportunity to provide humanitarian assistance to the Karen refugees.  And this shipment is your chance to make a difference!

New versus used goods

If the items are brand-new, please include invoices/receipts to verify the value of the goods, if you have them.

If the items are not brand-new, please ensure that the items are serviceable before you drop them off at one of our collection centres.

Collection centres

If you live on the North side of Brisbane, please take your goods to the Keperra Baptist Church at 980 Samford Road in Keperra.  Please do this before 5pm on Thursday, the 24th of November 2022.

If you live on the South side of Brisbane, please take your goods to our temporary collection centre in Wishart.  Before you travel, please contact Paul on 0419 723 657 to obtain the address.  Please do this before Sunday, the 20th of November 2022.

If you reside outside South East Queensland and you would like to donate, please write to us at info@mission2myanmar.org.

Cut off date for getting your goods into the shipping container

Even though the cargo will be picked up on the 12th of December and driven to Port Brisbane, we need to give the import agent in Bangkok enough time to process the paperwork and the import clearances before the container leaves Brisbane. Because of this, there is a cut off date for getting your goods to the venue.

The cut off date is: Thursday the 24th of November at 5pm.

If for any reason, you cannot deliver your donated items to the venue in Keperra before this deadline, please contact Claire Jones immediately on 0431 647 092 to make alternative arrangements.

If we do not hear from you by 24/11 @ 5pm and you attempt to deliver your donated items to the venue after this deadline, then your goods will not be loaded into the shipping container.

What kind of items can I donate to the Karen refugees?

That's a good question. To see the updated wish-list (PDF document), please click here.
